Infiniti G37 CarPlay Upgrade: How a 12.3" Wide Screen Modernizes the Factory Dashboard

The Infiniti G37 has aged remarkably well as a car. Its infotainment system has not. If you still enjoy driving your G37 but want the dashboard to feel more like a newer vehicle, a modern wide-screen upgrade can make a much bigger difference than simply adding CarPlay.

Sit inside a newer car today and one of the first things you notice is the display. Modern infotainment systems increasingly use wide, high-mounted screens that put navigation, music, calls and vehicle information directly in the driver's line of sight.

The G37 comes from a different generation. Its original center display was well integrated for its time, but the small factory screen and older interface can now make an otherwise attractive interior feel dated.

That creates an interesting question for G37 owners: How do you modernize the infotainment system without making the dashboard look like an obvious aftermarket installation—or losing the factory functions you still use?

The Screen Is One of the Biggest Visual Differences Between an Older and Newer Car

CarPlay itself solves a functional problem. It gives you easier access to navigation, music, calls and your phone.

But adding CarPlay to the original G37 display does not fundamentally change the look of the dashboard.

A 12.3-inch horizontal wide screen does.

Instead of trying to imitate the original small display, the wider screen follows the design direction seen in many newer vehicles: a large horizontal display positioned higher on the dashboard.

This is why the upgrade is about more than adding another feature. The screen changes the visual age of the interior while also giving the driver a much more modern infotainment experience.

There Are Three Different Ways to Modernize a G37 Infotainment System

Before choosing a screen, it helps to understand that not every G37 CarPlay upgrade is trying to accomplish the same thing.

CarPlay Interface

Adds Apple CarPlay or Android Auto while continuing to use the original Infiniti display.

A good choice if you like the factory dashboard and mainly want modern phone connectivity.

Tesla-Style Screen

Replaces much more of the center stack with a large vertical touchscreen.

It creates a dramatic transformation, but the vertical-screen appearance is very different from the original G37 interior.

12.3" Wide Screen

Uses a modern horizontal display positioned above the center stack.

It is designed for owners who want a newer-car-style screen experience without converting the dashboard to a large vertical layout.

Modern Appearance Is Only Half of the Upgrade

Making the G37 look newer is relatively easy. Making it look newer without creating new problems is the important part.

The G37 is not a simple universal double-DIN radio installation. Several original vehicle functions are integrated into the factory infotainment system.

That means compatibility should be considered before screen size, Android version or processor specifications.

A proper G37 upgrade needs to answer four questions:

Will my factory camera still work?
Will my steering wheel controls still work?
Will I retain climate-control functions?
Will the system work with my factory sound system?

What Factory Functions Are Retained?

The Roadnavier 12.3" wide-screen system is designed specifically around the supported Infiniti and Nissan V36 platform rather than being a universal Android radio.

The system supports retention of key original functions including:

Factory camera
The compatible original rear-view camera can continue to be used with the upgraded system.

Steering wheel controls
The original steering wheel buttons remain available after installation.

Climate control
The factory climate-control system is retained rather than being discarded with the old display.

Factory sound support
The system is designed to integrate with supported factory audio configurations.

What Changes After the Upgrade?

Once the factory integration problem is solved, the upgrade becomes much more interesting.

The original infotainment experience is replaced by a 12.3-inch, 2400 × 900 wide display running Android 14 on the UIS7865 platform.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto allow your phone to become part of the driving experience without plugging it in every time you enter the car.

Because it is also a full Android system, you are not limited to CarPlay. Supported Android apps can run directly on the screen, giving the system more flexibility than a basic CarPlay interface.

What About the Different G37 Factory Configurations?

This is one of the areas that often makes buying an aftermarket G37 screen confusing.

Different G37 vehicles can have different factory dashboard and wiring configurations. Traditionally, this means the customer has to identify the correct version before ordering.

That is not a particularly customer-friendly process.

With this Roadnavier system, three supported harness configurations are included in the package.

You therefore do not need to choose between those three supported harness configurations when placing the order. The appropriate connection is selected during installation.

How Is the 12.3" Screen Installed?

This upgrade is not simply a screen placed over the original system.

During installation, the original factory head unit is removed while the original factory climate-control box is retained.

The new screen and vehicle-specific harness then integrate the modern infotainment system with the functions that remain in the car.

The result is a much newer-looking interface without treating the G37 like a generic universal-radio installation.

Which Infiniti and Nissan Models Use This Wide-Screen Upgrade?

The platform covers several related Infiniti and Nissan V36 vehicles, including:

Infiniti G25 / G35 / G37: 2007–2013
Infiniti Q40: 2014–2015
Infiniti Q60 First Generation: 2014–2015
Nissan Skyline V36 250GT: 2007–2014
Nissan Skyline V36 350GT / 370GT: 2007–2014

Is the 12.3" Wide Screen the Right G37 Upgrade for You?

If your only goal is to get Apple CarPlay, keeping the factory screen and adding a CarPlay interface may be enough.

If you prefer the dramatic look of a large vertical display, a Tesla-style system is a different direction.

But if the goal is to make an older G37 feel more like a newer vehicle—with a modern horizontal wide screen, wireless CarPlay, Android Auto and Android functionality— while retaining the important factory functions, the 12.3" wide-screen approach occupies a useful middle ground.
